Man arrested after firing bullets near Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia

Authorities say a man with a long gun who was targeting the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Vanderhoof, British Columbia, on Thursday has been apprehended.

After reports of an active shooter driving a Ford pickup at 12:26 PT, police advised citizens to stay in place, lock their doors, and avoid leaving their business or house, according to the RCMP.

Police saw the vehicle again just after 1 p.m.

A brief pursuit was initiated, during which a police vehicle was rammed,” police said. “The suspect was then arrested without incident.”

Officers and specialized units were deployed in response. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the RCMP.

A lockdown has been lifted as there is no indication of any ongoing threats to the public, according to British Columbia RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.
