Hanna Tetteh, a Ghanaian, has been named UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.

Ms. Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, Ghana’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has been named Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Horn of Africa.

On February 22, 2022, UN Secretary-General António Guterres made the announcement.

After serving as Director-General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya, Ms Tetteh was appointed Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union in 2019.

Ms Tetteh, a lawyer and politician with extensive experience in diplomatic circles and understanding of Africa’s political scene, would bring to her new post many years of experience in diplomatic circles and knowledge of the continent’s political environment.

She has worked as a Member of Parliament, a Minister of State, and in a position that needed her expertise in peacebuilding and conflict resolution all throughout Africa.
