Asensei, a connected-coaching firm, has added a computer vision product to its AI-powered coaching engine to give 3D motion capture data. The (App)erture optical collection method complements the company’s existing smart apparel offering, (App)arel.

Asensei’s (App)erture, which was provided to all of its software development kit (SDK) clients on Wednesday, may be used with a smartphone camera or the cameras found in other connected fitness devices. (App)erture translates human motion into skeletal data, which may be used to track form, count reps, and provide coaching suggestions.

Asensei claims that their computer vision solution generates a data set that is compatible with its smart (App)arel “Asensei inside.” Instead of only detecting motion, the new software also offers body part orientation, such as whether a palm is looking up or down, which can be essential to coaching input.

As with Asensei announced a partnership with Reform RX Pilates machines earlier this month, as well as with Virus International this fall on a line of smart fitness attire. The company’s existing offerings include coaching products for strength training with bodyweight, kettlebells, dumbbells, and barbells, as well as for the disciplines of yoga, Pilates, rowing, TRX, and boxing. Dumbbells
