The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has set instructions for the party’s impending Presidential Special Electoral College elections.
Among other things, the guidelines advised all delegates to nominate a proxy for the elections.
A statement signed by the Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, William Yamoah, asked delegates to submit the details of proxies no later than August 2, 2023, to the Committee.
It stated that a proxy voter’s information should include the full name, telephone contact, and photocopies of the nominated individual’s Voter Identification Card and party membership card.
The statement noted that a person can only be nominated as a “proxy if they are a delegate for the Special Electoral College and cannot be nominated more than once.”
Individuals who are not delegates to the Presidential Special Electoral College are therefore ineligible to be nominated as proxies.
The statement further stated that a delegate selecting a proxy should explicitly designate the category that they belong to including their full name, and phone number, and attach copies of their Voter Identification Card and party membership card.
Other rules include, among other things, the style of security and supervision, steps to address issues that may develop, and the composition of the electoral college.
The Presidential Special Electoral College elections will be held on August 26, 2023, in all 16 regional capitals and 17 centers.
