Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya congratulate Akufo-Addo on re-election

The leaders of Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Kenya have congratulated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his re-election for a second term in office.

“I congratulate President Akufo-Addo on his re-election for a second term in office. I also commend the people of Ghana on the successful conclusion of the presidential and parliamentary elections – further proof that constitutional democracy has come to stay in West Africa,” tweeted Nigerian Leader Muhammadu Buhari.

“Nigeria and Ghana share close historical and cultural ties, and I look forward to working with President Akufo-Addo to realise our shared goals of peace, security and prosperity for our citizens and for the entire ECOWAS community.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I wish President Akufo-Addo a

successful new tenure, and peace and stability in his country, as well as improved relations between our two countries,” he wrote.

Ivorian leader Alassane Ouattara also tweeted: “My warmest congratulations and best wishes to my brother Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his re-election as President of the Republic of Ghana.

“I look forward to working with him in the same warm spirit, which has marked the historic and fraternal relations between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana for so many years.”

On his part, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the re-election of President Akufo-Addo demonstrated the strong confidence and trust the people of Ghana had in his visionary and progressive leadership.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya and on my own behalf, I wish to extend my warmest congratulations on Your Excellency’s re-election as President of Ghana.

“I believe, under your visionary and strong leadership, Ghana will certainly consolidate and expand the gains made during your first term in office for the benefit of your people and the African continent,” he wrote in a message.

Kenyatta said he looked forward to continue working closely with President Akufo-Addo to enhance bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Ghana for the benefit of the people of the two countries, as well as to advance the African agenda of a stable, peaceful and progressive continent.

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo was on Wednesday, December 9, declared the winner of the keenly contested 2020 presidential election by the Electoral Commssion, 48 hours after polls closed last Monday.

He polled 51.3 per cent as against main opposition candidate John Mahama’s 47.36 per cent of votes.
