Koku Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the Farmers Day celebration is one of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings’ most enduring legacies.
Every year on the first Friday in December, Ghana celebrates National Farmers Day to honor the contributions of the country’s farmers and fishermen.
The holiday is intended to recognize the role of agriculture and fishing in Ghana’s socioeconomic development.
“Papa J is gone: Farmers Day endures,” Mr Anyidoho tweeted as part of the celebrations today, Friday, December 3. Farmers Day was established by Jerry John Rawlings in 1985, and it is one of his lasting achievements. Ayekooo to ALL of our farmers and fisherman for keeping the nation’s bodies and souls alive. Ghana is alive and well.”
