All eyes on the Madrid Derby

Real Madrid will face Atletico Madrid in a Spanish La Liga match at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano on December 12. 
The Whites secured a 1-0 win over Sevilla away in their previous league encounter which was played on December 5.

The victory ended Real’s three-match winless run in this competition having recorded two defeats and one draw. 


They have lost two of their last three home matches in La Liga, while the other game ended in a victory over Huesca. 

Zinedine Zidane, the Real manager, praised his defence after the Whites kept a clean sheet in the narrow victory over Sevilla.

“Solid and really working for each other. Sometimes, when you don’t have the ball it’s important to defend as a unit and stand firm,” Zidane said. 

“Not just Nacho and Rafa [Raphael Varane], who did superbly, but everyone. From the striker, Karim [Benzema] came inside to cut out pass lines. 

“We can do great things if we carry on like this, it was a great performance today.”



Meanwhile, Atletico overcame Real Valladolid 2-0 at home in their previous league game which was played on December 5. 

The win extended the Mattress Makers’ unbeaten run to 26 matches in this competition having registered nine draws and 17 victories. 


They are also undefeated in their last 12 matches on the road in La Liga having recorded six victories and six draws. 

The last league meeting between Madrid and Atletico was on 1 February 2020.


Real ran out 1-0 winners over Atletico in a match which took place at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
