The New Patriotic Party’s Central Regional Delegates Conference, scheduled for Friday, May 27, 2022, has been postponed after expected delegates from the Ekumfi constituency sued the upcoming Elections for allegedly barring constituency delegates from attending the conference.

The Ekumfi constituency has not yet held its constituency executive election, and some party members believe that holding the regional delegate conference would deprive delegates in Ekumfi of their right to vote, thus the action by prospective delegates in Ekumfi.

A motion on notice for interlocutory injunction seen by Citi News urged the High Court to prevent the defendants, including the NPP’s Central Regional Chairman, Robert Kutin, from holding Regional Elections and “from transmitting any results to the National office of the party until the final determination of the suit.”

The case is scheduled to be heard on June 2, 2022.

Speaking to Citi News, the spokesperson of the plaintiffs, Ekumfi Hammond, indicated that “over 520 polling station executives have been denied the right to elect their constituency executives to represent them in the regional elections”.
