Mrs Adwoa Amoako, Municipal Chief Executive, Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has described as unprecedented developmental projects embarked upon by the Municipality in the last three years and promised a livelihood transformation in ensuing years.
She said the assembly, since its inauguration in 2018 after it was carved out of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, had consciously undertaken extensive developmental projects in education, health, water and sanitation, road infrastructure, agriculture, social welfare, security among others.
Mrs Amoako in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tema said the assembly had invested hugely in educational infrastructure which has culminated into improved school access, and increased enrolment.
She mentioned the construction of a two-storey six-unit classroom block at the Tema Senior High School and Lashibi Basic School, renovation of Sakumono Primary School block, and construction of a Library at Community 14.
Other development projects undertaken over the past three-years includes: construction of training centre at Adjei Kojo State School for the Deaf, the construction of a sickbay at the Tetteh Ocloo School for the Deaf, a CHIPS Compound at Klagon, and routine health screening of residence.
She said the provision of teaching and learning materials, had improved the quality of teaching and learning and further created a more child-friendly environment in schools which had positively affected enrolment generally.
Mrs Amoako said the Assembly within the short-period of three years have made considerable strides while expanding primary health care coverage in the municipality.
She indicated that to open up more areas and stimulate economic and social development in the municipality, the Assembly upgraded some roads infrastructure including the rehabilitation of Sakumono boundary road asphaltic overlay.
The Assembly has also upgraded the Community 18 and 20 Jasmine roads; rehabilitation of Temple Christian College roads at Baatsona; and rehabilitation of mission roads at Baatsona, Spintex.
On the issues of sanitation; Mrs Amoako indicated that some efforts had been made which had resulted in the dredging of drains at Abattoir and Borteyman, the distribution of waste bins to households and maintenance works on the central sewage.
She said “we have instituted routine clean-up exercises and fumigation of markets within Tema West Municipality as part of efforts to curtail the spread of COVID-19”.
“COVID-19 had brought in its wake some difficulties on livelihoods which required the intervention of the Assembly and we responded with the provision of hot meals to some residents in the municipality.
“Where there was the need to present other relief items including Personal Protective Equipment, Veronica Buckets, construction of water faucets amongst others were readily done.”
The MCE reiterated the Assembly’s commitment in the area of Agriculture as an engine of growth and job creation and to further the industrialization drive of the municipality to make it all the more formidable.
