Kpone residents call on security personnel to intensify patrol

Residents of Shanghai and its environs in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality have called on the security services to intensify patrols in the community as robbery attacks are on the rise.

The residents said upscaling security presence through consistent patrols would serve as a deterrent to the criminals who have been terrorising the community, attacking and robbing residents of their possessions.

Scores of residents told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Shanghai and Kpone Katamanso that “The robbers usually on motorbikes attack residents especially ladies in the area during the day as the place was highly isolated.”

A resident, who was recently attacked told the GNA that the robbers broke into his apartment and made away with some items, including mobile phones and a gas cylinder.

Another resident, who is a shop owner, said the robbers took away all the items in her provision shop together with an unspecified amount of money.

Madam Theresa Kyeremani also told the GNA that she was attacked by two men on a motorbike, who snatched her mobile phone at gunpoint in broad day light.

In his response to the issue, the Kpone Katamanso District Commander of Police, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mr Seth Tay, told the GNA that regardless of these complaints, the police were up to the task to ensure law and order in the Municipality.

He assured the residents that they had nothing to fear.

Mr Tay, however, asked the residents to act swiftly to the attacks by reporting robbery cases to the police as soon as they occurred to help the police deal with the issue decisively.

Residents should help us with intelligent information, activities of suspicious persons and groups, we need to work together to defeat the robbers, he said.

The Kpone Municipal Command covers many communities, which sometimes makes it difficult for the police to be everywhere at all times, therefore, the need to prompt the police whenever some attacks take place, he explained.

Mr Tay explained that to curb the daytime robbery, the police had embarked on community policing to ensure that plain cloth police personnel patrolled the community to identify criminal activities and also to deal with crime as they occurred.
