Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, has urged furious teachers grumbling about laptops purchased for them to be cool.

Hon. Yaw Adutwum told Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” host Kwami Sefa Kayi that there is no need to be concerned as he addressed the teachers’ fears about foul play in the transaction.

To clarify the situation, he explained that the money claimed to have been withdrawn from their salaries for the purchase of laptops was incorrect.

He stated that the money is removed from the teachers’ professional allowance of Ghc 1200, which is given to them because of President Nana Akufo-generosity Addo’s in assisting them financially, as well as from government coffers because the laptops cost 70% of the total cost.

“The teachers have been grumbling about writing class notes and so on, so they need computers,” he said, refuting claims that the laptops are of poor quality. The computers will let them work more efficiently… The laptops come with a two-year warranty, rather than the standard one-year warranty, which means that if something goes wrong with it, you can return it in for free repairs.”

The Education Minister also lauded the leaders of the teacher unions, through whom the laptops were secured, saying the teachers should be “patient and know that their union leaders have their interests at heart”.

When their leaders meet me and are fighting for the teachers, they even forget I am a Minister. They don’t joke with the teachers at all. So, they won’t do nothing to deceive their fellow teachers or treat them badly. They are not like that . . . be patient, let’s all come together and let calm prevail,” he said.
