Mr. David Boakye, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP Bono) East regional secretary, has spoken out against the opposition to the E-Levy by the minority in Parliament.
When the government provided them $28 million for new Toyota V8s, the minority, according to the NPP official, should have shown the same fervor in fighting the E-levy.
- According to the MFWA boss, the e-levy is a clumsy and ineffective strategy to expand the tax net.
- ‘You’ve borrowed and squandered GHS220 billion in five years; what can GHS7 billion in e-levy funds accomplish?’
“They made no comment when the government granted them $28 million.” Mr. Boakye remarked on Wontumi TV, which was monitored that none of them complained it was too much and that the government should keep a portion of the money.
They should have “stood up to the government when $28 million was granted to them for their V8s,” he continued.
The introduction of the E-levy, he declared strongly, would bring development to Ghanaians and should not have been dismissed by the minority.
