Several users have posted to Apple’s Support Forum this week after discovering their iPhone batteries were draining, with the Apple Music app primarily to blame

They’re some of the most popular smartphones around the world, but if you use an iPhone, you may have noticed your battery draining more quickly than normal.

iPhone batteries were draining, with the Apple Music app primarily to blame.

One user wrote: “I have an iPhone 8 running IOS 13.4.1 everything is up to date and was performing well until this weekend. All of a sudden my battery started draining much quicker than previously. Looking at the battery usage it seems that Apple Music is causing it.

“I have attached two screenshots below; one for the last 24hrs and one for the last 10 days. You can see that up until Friday there was little or no background activity however this jumps massively over the weekend.

“I have turned background app refresh off for all app and yet Apple Music is still draining the battery when not in use; 53% of battery use in the last 24hrs without using the app.”

Meanwhile, another user wrote: “This has been happening to my iPhone X all weekend. Phone was also getting incredibly hot as well as insane battery drain, despite not using the Music app of having it open.”

While the obvious fix would be to update your iPhone, unfortunately this doesn’t help, with iPhones running on the latest operating system all affected.

Unfortunately, at the moment, it seems the only fix for the issue is to delete the Music app.

ZDNet advised: “The most reliable temporary “fix” for this bug so far seems to be to delete the Music app (press on it until the menu pops up and choose Delete App).

“Pretty drastic, but it seems to be the only option that works for those hardest hit by this bug.”

The fact that the issue has affected multiple users indicates that there’s clearly a problem.

ZDNet added: “There’s clearly a problem, and hopefully iOS 13.6, which is currently in beta, will bring some relief to those affected.”
